Helping your marriage thrive when your spouse is living with bipolar disorder

The Marriage and Bipolar Disorder Authority

Resources & Tools

I have an abundance of respect for National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). When I was first trying to learn about bipolar disorder in general I was given a 16 page packet that NAMI has put together. They have a knack of getting into the complexities of mental illness without going over your head. Their website has a an abundance of resources available to you. Everything from mental illness in the headlines to finding local support groups. I would encourage everyone to take a look at their site – I promise that you will not walk away without having learned something.

I found an awesome list of tips for spouses/family of those with schizophrenia, but are certainly applicable to any mental illness. I wish I would have found this sooner! I have come to develop many of these conclusions on my own, but it feels great to see that I am headed in the right direction. It may help someone else too. As always, thanks for the great blog!

Charity, thank you for providing this additional resource. I have found that a lot of resources that are meant for one particular mental illness is also very helpful for other mental illnesses. I am glad that you continue to enjoy the blog. Thank you for leaving the comment!

    Charity,

I’m just now seeing this. What a great list! Some things I’ve learned the hard way, other things I’ve already been doing, and still other things are new! I am always learning. I really appreciate you sharing it. I love how they call it “neurological brain disorder” rather than “mental illness”. I’ve always hated that term.I think I will start replacing it in my speech and references to people who have this!
